Murder Half-Baked ReviewThis novel was excellent in all sorts of ways. I love the characters as they span several generations and show them all to an excellent advantage. The sleuth is a woman in her forties that happens to be getting married to the local Chief of Police within a short time.
Ellen McKenzie has a delightful sense of humor and balance which serves her well in the unexpected and shocking situations she finds herself thrown into. Her groom, Dan Dunham is very human and also has a layer of sophistication that often cozy authors leave out.
Their friends and family are well represented as well.
The location is a small town in California, Santa Louisa. I sense I live near this fictional town but not exactly clear where it is. What fun. They have bakeries, which from my earliest childhood, are listed as my favorite stores to visit. Especially Italian bakeries. If I had any complaints it was not having any recipes included.
The mysteries were contemporary, action-filled, startling and pulled at my heart strings. You should read this book to find the other qualities which I haven't listed.
